The winners of the annual Apps4Finland contest have been declared in the award ceremony organized for the fifth time this year. Apps4Finland competition seeks creative and inspiring ways of utilizing open data. The competition entries were evaluated based on their impact potential on the target users, the ability of the entries to insipre and enable others to use data and to decipher complex dependencies in terms of data visualisations. In addition, the contestants were invited to solve domain specific Challenges related to tourisim, communication between citizens and the decision makers, public transport as well as the utilization of personal transaction and health information. In total, the competition featured over 27.000 euros worth of awards.

Extensive network of open data promoters involved in the organization of the contest

Forum Virium Helsinki and The Finnish Association for Online Democracy were the main organizers of the contest. Involved as Organizing Partners were the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Ministry of Transport and Communications, National Land Survey of Finland, Open Data Tampere Region, Open Knowledge Finland, Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Statistics Finland and the Ministry of Finance. The Challenge Partners posing the problems for Special Challenges included the Youth Department of the City of Helsinki, Finnish Transport Agency, Ministry of Justice, Tieto, OP-Pohjola group, Helsinki Region Transport and the National Institute for Health and Welfare. The Sponsors of the contest were IBM, YLE Public Broadcasting Company, Helsinki Region Infoshare and Forge Service Lab.
