Most information on construction and repair work carried out by the City of Helsinki is available to the general public. Helsinki has also introduced a high degree of transparency to urban planning information. Despite the city’s efforts, many residents of Helsinki do not know where and how to get information on building sites.
The Raksa.info service provides information on current construction projects in Helsinki to the residents of the city. In addition to this, it acts as an excellent service channel for builders. Different construction sites, such as an apartment building, a street or a buried electrical cable, are all given a Raksa.info number with which people can search for information on the site. Searches are fast and easy, and can be done by mobile phone or online.
The project was led by Forum Virium Helsinki and lasted from February 2007 until the end of 2008. The participants in this project included the City of Helsinki Building Regulation Department and the City of Helsinki Public Works Department, YIT, SRV, Helsingin Energia and Senate Properties. The consulting and research company Idean conducted a user survey on the service and obtained positive feedback from users, while the company Public Side was responsible for the productisation of the project. The product is being developed further by Public Side, the owner of the idea.
