Idealinko encouraged people to come up with concrete ways to improve everyday wellbeing services, work methods and environments. The goal was not only to look for ideas and areas for improvement, but also to find solutions to the challenges found.
Idealinko ran in the Helsinki districs of Herttoniemi, Herttoniemenranta, Roihuvuori and Tammisalo. It invited the residents and City of Helsinki employees to share their ideas on how to improve services or working conditions. Businesses and organizations could then present their solutions to these challenges.
The aim was to sift through the hundreds of ideas and find at least one significant improvement idea – and test this in practice before the end of 2011. In the fall of 2011, two ideas were chosen into implementation: Herttoniemi health care center received an infoTV and in the Roihuvuori district, residents were supported in their attemps to open a community center in the area.
Idealinko also renewed the way City of Helsinki develops its services. The purpose was to find new practices and to encourage employees to share their ideas on improving and resolving problems.
Discussion and peer review
Idealinko tested a web service, in which ideas were shared, discussed and evaluated. Suggested ideas and solutions were discussed, and reviewed by other users and experts of the City of Helsinki. Businesses and organizations were able to bring their solutions to the table. Ideas with most potential was tried out in practice.
During the project, numerous idea workshops were organized with residents and city employees. The City of Helsinki appointed experts from among its staff who participated in reviewing the ideas.
Idealinko was a part of the Healthy Borough programme, which ended in 2011. Participating in the project were the City of Helsinki Health Center, Social Services Department, Education Department, Sports Department and Personnel Center along with Forum Virium Helsinki, Medixine, Logica, Tieto, Palmia and VTT.
