Case Nokia
In the UDOI Booster project, Nokia tested innovative services for tourists together with end-users. Tested services were based on augmented reality.
On the Suomenlinna fortress island, people were able to test what it would be like to gather information on their environment by holding one's mobile device at an interesting landmark. After this, one could read the information on the device screen. At the same time, an audio interface, giving the same information in audio form, was tested. With this solution, the user only had to turn their head towards the place of interest, wearing a headset.
”We received positive feedback especially on the audio interface. People loved the idea that they could receive automatic information on their environment in the form of audio clips. People found it particularly positive that the solution is hands-free”, tells Mr. Hannu Nieminen from Nokia Research Center.
Nokia is pleased with the results of this project. With UDOI Booster, valuable information on user experience was made available for further development. According to Mr. Nieminen, the project has raised a wide interest inside the company, and the findings will be utilised in a number of product development and research projects.
