UDOI Booster
Forum Virium Helsinki accelerates user-driven open innovation in the UDOI Booster project. For the first time, service designers and users will have the opportunity to engage in extensive collaboration.
Flexible Services is a strategic research programme creating new service ecosystems. Funded by Tekes - the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, and coordinated by TIVIT - the Strategic Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation in the Field of ICT, the project brings together research organisations, public actors and the most prominent companies in the industry.
The objective of the Flexible Services programme is to develop a modular infrastructure of digital services and to put related new functionalities and tools into practice. Another key objective is to create a Web of Services based on a new type of collaboration between the programme participants.
Individual services as part of a larger ecosystem
The UDOI Booster project aims to implement user-driven open innovation. Individual services are develoed as part of the service ecosystem in a new type of collaboration. This collaboration will allow developers of new technologies, service and content providers, and user communities to contribute to the design of the service.
The ecosystem-based approach to service development is a new phenomenon in the research world. At the moment, no other research project exists where design and use are combined to such a large extent. The UDOI Booster project also attempts to develop new user-driven open innovation methods by trying them out in practice during the programme.
The project started in early June 2008 and will last until the end of May 2010. The project partners are Elisa, Forum Virium Helsinki, Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT, Idean, Medineuvo, Nokia, the Center for Knowledge and Innovation Research (CKIR) at the Aalto University School of Economics, Laurea University of Applied Arts, the University of Art and Design Helsinki, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Tampere University of Technology, the University of Tampere and the Aalto University School of Science and Technology.
Udoi Booster Results Seminar was organized on 20th of May 2010 at Tampere. The programme of the event and presentations are available here.
